A project we collaborated with Maja from M2S Weddings since March - Women of the World was an amazing opportunity for us to learn, connect, and explore many cultural backgrounds, with rich context that comes within each beautiful story. With the span of 15 models with completely different ethnic makeup, we are proud to say that this project was a success, and look forward to sharing some stories with you all! Feel free to check out all the models & their stories on M2S Weddings!
A note from the Photographer
"Living in Canada means living in a country surrounded by different ethnic groups. For a portrait photographer like I am, this is a dream come true and a unique opportunity to capture them (back in the days I would say film) in my photos. In this project I focused on women." - Maja
"Its not vanity to feel you have the right to be beautiful. Women are taught to feel we're not good enough, that we must live up to someone elses' standards. But my aim is to cherish myself as I am." - Elle Macpherson
A note from the Models
"Colours have significant meaning in India. For example, people wear white to funerals, while brides are adorned in red for their weddings. Indian clothes are usually always very vibrant and colourful, and the jewellery is always hella extra. It is a continuation of what our ancestors used to wear. I’ve westernized it a bit with my clothes and simple makeup, but to this day it is a part of my culture that I am proud to talk about and show." -Kanchan
"Hanbok is the traditional attire of Korean people. Worn daily up until just 100 years ago, these days it is only worn on festive occasions or special anniversaries. I’m grateful for being able to celebrate my ancestry through this beautiful Korean traditional dress!" - Shinbee
"A lambahoany is the traditional garment worn by men and women that live in Madagascar. The textile, highly emblematic of Malagasy culture, consists of a rectangular length of cloth wrapped around the body. These are traditionally made of printed cotton featuring a repeated border design that encloses either a secondary pattern (often around a central medallion) or a large image depicting a pastoral scene from daily life. Every time I wear this, it reminds me of home away from home." - Leslie
"Hospitality is an Arab tradition that is very engrained in our culture. We love hosting and having people over. Love being able to celebrate my culture and showcase local talent! - Nora
